Each new letter has a blending book with it that practices using that letter to decode and blend CVC words. This gives the student focused practice as they learn to decode, helping them to feel successful with each new letter that they learn.
ABOUT
These books begin with a review of letter names and sounds that the student has practiced thus far. They then move into practicing blending with letters that the student knows. Each word has a blending bar below it to help students visualize moving from one letter to the next.
TIPS & TRICKS
As students begin these books, they will not need to be able to do this independently at first. We recommend viewing the first several weeks as an introduction to blending, providing exposure and practice for students. Teachers/parents should model how to blend, helping students move their finger from one letter to the next. You can also say each sound and see if the student can say the word. The most important thing is to help students feel successful and to make the work manageable. Repeat these books as necessary to help students grow in their decoding skills.
